Currently I am relaxing on the front porch of the dormitory while waiting for our evening meal. Today was our second day of running VBS at the two summer camps. I was working at the Mashulaville site and it was surprisingly peaceful both days. 🙂
Yesterday the kids started arriving at around 7:30am and it was wonderful to see familiar faces from last year! One little girl I recognized immediately.. Here's how our conversation before breakfast went:
Me – Hi Marianna!
Marrianna (6 y/o) – How do you know my name?
Me – I was here last year and I remembered you.
Marianna – *incredulous* You remembered me?? ……. Can you sit next to me?
She's been a pretty constant companion during most of our activities these past two days. It was great to see how touched she was that I actually remembered her! This happened with probably a dozen of the kids.. It was great that they remembered us and it was clear they were surprised we came back. It's very nice to be able to start the week off with a relationship already formed. It has definitely made teaching them a lot easier.
Last night we ran a VBS at the Choctaw Christian Church. It went very smoothly. The kids were very well behaved and had a great time playing games, doing crafts, singing songs, and listening to Bible stories. When the kids first got there one little girl ran up to me, put her arm around me, and essentially decided we were going to be friends. Her name is Natasha, and she is very sweet. It is great to see the Choctaw children being open to us being there. The prayer is that their hearts will be softened and ready to receive the Gospel.
Today's VBS at Mashulaville went very well. The kids really got into the music and even the older ones were doing hand motions. It was so encouraging to see the kids pay attention during the Bible lesson. Lots of them were answering questions and many of them could say the Bible memory verse.
Blessings,
